No More Meadows (by Monica Dickens)

I've read one or two books by Monica Dickens, a descendant of Charles Dickens, and find myself unsure whether or not to read more. I don't find them particularly memorable or moving, but once I've started, they're hard to put down.

'No more meadows' features Christine, a bookshop manager in her thirties, who decides to marry an American naval officer, despite her family's objections.

How she gradually adjusts to married life in a new country, shortly after World War II, is the main plot.

Realistic people, and a shocking - if somewhat convoluted - ending leads to a hopeful conclusion.

A good book, but one I'm unlikely to read again. Now out of print.
