They're light, of course, and a bit trite at times. Some of them are rather samey. However Elinor M Brent-Dyer has quite a gift of characterisation, and these books can also be very moving.
'Redheads at the Chalet School', which I just finished re-reading, is one of the more exciting books in the series. It's about a girl called Flavia, who is sent to the Chalet School to escape from a criminal who wants revenge on her.
There's a gripping climax after an enjoyable book that's rather different from most in the series.
Recommended to anyone who wants a light teenage book to read.
(I wrote a much more comprehensive review of 'Redheads at the Chalet School' when I re-read it yet again, in 2017)
