Treasures of Time (by Penelope Lively)

'Treasures of Time' is a fairly short modern novel by Penelope Lively. She is best known for her children's books, but this one is for adults.

Tom, an academic, lives with Kate, whose father was a famous archaeologist. A BBC programme is to be made about Kate's father, and Tom is drawn into the family. They include the lively self-centred mother Laura, and her sister Nellie who is in a wheelchair.

As the past and present intertwine, we learn more about each person.  Tom becomes involved emotionally and Tony, the TV producer, is involved in other ways.

I thought this book was skilfully written, with a realistic ending.

Recommended.
