Dirk Gently's holistic detective agency (by Douglas Adams)

Dirk Gently's holistic detective agency by Douglas Adams

The writer Douglas Adams was, of course, best known for his 'Hitchhiker's Guide' series of books. They have been dramatised and turned into films more than once.

But I hadn't previously read 'Dirk Gently's holistic detective agency'.  I saw it on someone's shelves, and picked it up in an idle moment.

Like the first 'Hitchhiker' book and its sequels, this is a bizarre mixture of genres: crime fiction, humour, fantasy... and more.  And, not being particularly geeky, I didn't really understand it. However, perhaps I just wasn't in the right mood to enjoy it.

On the positive side, I thought the book very well-written, with some humorous asides, which I appreciated. Evidently it is not to be taken too seriously.
