The Chalet School and the Island (by Elinor M Brent-Dyer)

The Chalet School and the Island by Elinor M Brent-Dyer

This is yet another in the lengthy 'Chalet School' series by Elinor M Brent-Dyer. 'The Chalet School and the Island' is the book about the time when the school moved to the island of St Briavel's, due to a problem with drains at the previous location on the Welsh border.

In this story, the school begins water sports, and generally deals with the usual problems of day-to-day school life, albeit in the rather rarefied (and delightful) atmosphere of this unusual school.

There are a few scary moments when a rebellious girl tries to run away and gets caught in a storm, but otherwise it's a fairly run-of-the-mill book in the series.

(You can also read my somewhat longer review of 'The Chalet School and the Island', written on re-reading eleven years later)
