The old house at Railes (by Mary Pearce)

I picked up 'The old house at Railes' second hand, as it looked interesting. The book is a 19th century mini-saga by Mary Pearce.

Martin, the son of a stonemason, has lessons with an upper class family. He gradually becomes friends with them. Circumstances reverse their fortunes, and the family's paths cross again.

I thought this novel was fairly pleasant if unexciting. It contains some good social history, and an interesting story-line. But it didn't inspired me. It's probably not something I will read again.
