Touching the soul of Islam (by Bill Musk)

'Touching the soul of Islam' is a very well-written book, I thought. It contains interesting anecdotes and examples, as the author tries to explain what Islam really is and what it means to be a Muslim. It's written from a Christian perspective, and is intended to help people trying to share the gospel; but it's sensitive and attempts to give people a helpful, positive overview.

Bill Musk, the author, delves into the cultural differences that Westerners often miss when dealing with Middle Easterners. He also looks in detail at the importance of family life in Islamic culture, and the reasons behind many of the things that often seem strange to Europeans and Americans.

However, although he wants his readers to understand the background of Muslim culture and lifestyle, he is careful to distinguish the importance of understanding from ecumenism or syncretism.

Recommended to anyone wanting to understand Middle Eastern religion better.
