The Ivy Tree (by Mary Stewart)

I do enjoy Mary Stewart's novels. They tend to be light romantic thrillers - and while I'm not, in general, a fan of thrillers, her style is so good that I find them exciting without being too terrifying. The characters are always excellent, too.

'The Ivy Tree' is an intriguing story. Mary Grey agrees to impersonate her 'double' Annabel, in order to help Annabel's cousin inherit from his elderly Great-Uncle.

However, things get complicated, and violence is attempted, although thankfully nothing too horrific.

This book really kept me guessing - I thought it extremely well-written, and the climax was thrilling.

Definitely recommended.
