Nanny (by Jean Bowden)

'The Nanny' is a novel by Jean Bowden (not to be confused with 'The Nanny' by Melissa Nathan).

This is the book that started the TV series of 'Nanny' starring Wendy Craig.

Barbara is the main protagonist. She works as a nanny after her divorce. However her ex-husband is never quite out of her mind or heart.

In the aftermath of World War I, when this book is set, divorcees are not respected. So Barbara struggles to build her new life, while not becoming too attached to the children she's minding.

I thought this book well written, often quite moving.
