Hunting Gumnor (by Stephen Potts)

'Hunting Gumnor' is a fantasy-adventure story for older children and teenagers by Stephen Potts. It's one we picked up in the UK as recommended for young teenagers. I read it aloud to my sons when they were 13 and 11, and we all enjoyed it.

The story is an interesting mixture of adventure and fantasy. It's about Gumnor, a long forgotten 'living foghorn', who has vanished.

A girl called Rarty and her family set out to find Gumnor. We thought it was an interesting - and different - story, with well-written conversations and believable people. A pleasant ending, too.

Recommended, if you would like to read something a bit different. It works well as a read-aloud, and would probably be good for children aged about ten and upwards.
